Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time. Cast all your care upon Him, because He cares for you.

1 Peter 5:6–7, MEV

Doubt and fear plague us since the Fall. Once certainty in God’s Word was removed from our hearts and doubt in our Lord entered humanity's hearts, we often walk in greater uncertainty about God and place more assurance in ourselves, leaving us on an ever-shifting landscape. The promises of the world fail and falter, leaving us off-kilter and unsteady as we try to depend on the logic of the world. Our Lord calls us to Himself as He seeks to lead us away from the worries and cares of the world and into His presence. Jesus Christ died for us upon the cross and sacrificed Himself for us so we may be confident in His love and know His forgiveness. As we set aside the concerns weighing on our hearts from the affairs of humanity, we can look to our Lord, place all our faith in His promises, and know His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
