“I feel compassion for the crowd because they have remained with Me now three days and have nothing to eat.”
Mark 8:2, LSB
Our God is a God of compassion. His concern for us is evident as He seeks to bring us into His protection and lead us into His kingdom. As we witness throughout Scripture, the abundant grace and mercy poured out by our Lord is evident. As we come to this point in our Lord’s ministry, we see the many who have been drawn to Him, and He knows their hunger. Instead of turning them away to their homes, He finds a way to feed them. Using the simple elements of fish and bread, He takes what is in our eyes a little and out of it creates an abundance. Just as He teaches about the mustard seed, the planting of a tree in the ocean, or the moving of mountains, He demonstrates the power of faith through simple acts of feeding people. We don’t need to have a great amount of faith to trust in our Lord and show compassion. It is a calling for us all. Imagine how much can change when a little compassion is shown. Let us seek to have hearts filled with compassion and see where our Lord leads us and how we can bring His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
