For this reason, the promise is by faith, so that it may be according to grace and may be guaranteed to all of Abraham’s descendants—not only to the one who is a descendant by law, but also to the one who has the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.
Romans 4:16, EHV
The power of the promise is in the one who gives the promise. Will he keep his promise? As humans, we often fail in keeping our promises, but God is not like us. It is by faith that we realize this; by faith, we are made heirs of Abraham and grafted into the covenant God made with him. The promise of our Lord is not something we earn; it is not something we deserve but is given to us simply through the grace of our Father in Heaven. That present awaits our opening, and we receive it fully into our lives. It says in Genesis that Abraham was blessed to be a blessing to all nations. God’s intent all along was for all nations to be cleaved into His chosen family as the blessing was passed on through the only son between Abraham and Sarah and through Isaac the blessing passed to Jacob who became Israel. As we look to the Word, we find that the children of Israel were not always faithful, but through them comes our Lord, and through Him we find our salvation. As we walk in the faith of our Lord, Jesus Christ, hold fast to the salvation He offers and know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
