Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his hand and put it on Joseph’s hand, and clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain about his neck. And he made him ride in his second chariot. And they called out before him, “Bow the knee!” Thus he set him over all the land of Egypt.
Genesis 41:42–43, ESV
From daddy’s favorite to slave to prisoner to second in command under Pharaoh, what a whirlwind of a life that Joseph had, and how God utilized bad circumstances for the good of all people. Our lives can sometimes seem to get away from us, and events can disrupt all our plans, but when we remain faithful to our Lord and cling to the faith, God can show us pathways we had never seen before. We don’t see as God sees, and when things are happening that are meant to bring us harm, He can turn them to be used for His good purposes. It is easy to despair, but when we place our hope in God, we will find Him to be faithful. This doesn’t mean we will all have the good fortune of Joseph in the end, but God will glorify Himself in His faithful servants. In Christ, the reality is that we are all made like Joseph in the end, and no matter the circumstances we face on earth, one day we will stand with our Lord in glory as brothers and sisters of the one, true King. Let us glorify Him in all aspects of our lives and stand ever in His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
