Seven days you shall keep a sacred feast to the LORD your God in the place which the LORD chooses, because the LORD your God will bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hands, so that you surely rejoice.
Deuteronomy 16:15, NKJV
God calls us to set aside times in which His chosen people are to worship and offer praise. He did this to prepare the Israelites as they were going to enter the Promised Land. There were feast days and fast days prescribed throughout the Old Testament, and there are feast days and fast days prescribed for us as well. We are called to remembrance and to look to our Lord and be reminded of His providence. In times of great need, we are called to praise Him and remember His blessings. The Lord has chosen us, the Lord continues to choose, and we are meant to humbly set our cares for this world aside and seek Him. We do this as we approach the Sacraments, as the Holy Spirit calls us to baptize our children or be baptized ourselves. We are called to the altar to receive our Lord’s Holy body and blood. These are gifts and times and seasons to which we are called to remember. We remember that our Lord created us from dust and to dust we shall return. We remember the gift of the Son given upon the Cross. In our times and seasons, we are to remember all that our Lord has done and look to what He has promised to do and know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
