“What do you want Me to do for you?” And he said, “Lord, I want to regain my sight!” And Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has saved you.”
Luke 18:41–42, LSB
Faith is the most powerful gift we can be given. It is the power to know our Lord and to live in His promises. As our Lord Jesus describes it, we know that with just a little, we can move mountains. It is a gift because we cannot obtain it by our own actions or through our will, but it is given to us by our Lord. We see the power of faith as it builds trust. The blind man could not see visually, but he was not spiritually blind. He knew God was near and cried out for Him. Because of this gift, our Lord made his physical sight match his spiritual sight. We often walk around blind to the promises of our Lord and miss knowing the fullness of His love, but it only takes a moment, a prayer, and our Lord reveals to us all we need to know. In our times of weaknesses, we can cry out to our Lord trusting He will hear us to receive strength that will carry us through. It is never an easy thing because it goes contrary to our nature. Yet our Lord calls us to this promise and this reality. As we pray to our Lord and let His glory fill you and know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
