For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
Romans 8:15, ESV
In Christ, we have been freed from the power of sin and death. This is the reality of the Christian. We have been adopted into the family of God through the waters of our Baptism and it is to Him we cry in the midst of our suffering. We live in a world that is fallen and broken. Sin surrounds us, but we must not fear because we know from whom our hope comes. In our suffering, we turn to our Lord and reflect His hope to all who suffer. We are not to be resistant to worldly powers but are called to stand fearlessly in the truth that is Jesus Christ and proclaim Him while being prepared to face whatever the worldly powers may bring against us to still our voices. In our cries our hope is others will come to know the hope of Jesus Christ and come to be brought under His eternal banner, knowing that it is only through Him we may have the gift of eternal life in His Kingdom and through this we all may find His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
