“Oh, that My people would listen to Me, and Israel would follow in My ways! I would soon subdue their enemies, and turn My hand against their adversaries. Let those who hate the LORD cower before Him and their fate might last forever. But I would feed them with the finest of wheat, and with honey out of the rock I would satisfy you.”
Psalm 81:13–16, MEV
God’s heart is always for His chosen, but we find throughout history that hearts are rebellious against Him. He showed His love by the sacrifice that He made for us in His Son’s death on the Cross. God demonstrates this commitment throughout the Old Testament, as He continually saved them when they cried out to Him as their enemies attacked them. We witnessed the victories He would give against insurmountable odds. Our Lord wants us to know His love and calls us to seek after Him. We are given glimpses of His care in this life as we witness His love to the world, but all is a foretaste of the blessings to come for all of His chosen who have been cleaved into the promises to Israel. He desires for our lives to be a beacon to the hungry souls seeking the food that only He may offer. He pursues us, His beloved, and continues to desire to bless us in His grace. He calls us to His abundant waters that renew lives and restore broken souls. His wrath falls upon those who hate Him as He offers correction to His chosen. All of this is not done out of anger, but an abiding love that desires to lead us into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
