Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.
Colossians 2:16–17, ESV
Unlike the children of Israel, as followers of Christ, we no longer place importance on the day we observe the Sabbath, which would have been on Saturday, or the festivals referenced in the Old Testament, but on Christ and Him alone, in whom we are to find our hope. Though we are meant to still come together with fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to worship God in community, we are no longer bound up in the legal requirements that were once placed on followers of God, so one may not hold us to judgment when we do not feel compelled to observe the old patterns but move together in our faith proclaiming Christ's glory all the days of our lives and in every part of our daily lives. Our Christian identity permeates every aspect of who we are and who we are meant to be. So, the focus is on our lives reflecting Christ and shining out His glory, leading others into our Lord's peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
