Remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, “My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My good pleasure.”
Isaiah 46:9–10, MEV
God is like no other, and He is not bound by anything other than His nature. We see this throughout Scripture as His mercy often exceeds His desire to bring punishment. As hearts cry out when confronted with sin, He withholds the judgment that is most deserved from so many, yet those who remain proud find how quickly they are in error as they are faced with their deserved consequence. We cannot hide anything from Him, and His all-knowing heart continually calls us away from the things that seek to bring our destruction. From the Fall, He prepared for His Creation a path to renewal and a fulfillment of His righteousness. He doesn’t do this out of His obligation for us, but out of His compassion that He desires for us all to know and to live within. He desires for us, as His people, to live in His compassion and reflect it in our lives on those who are struggling and suffering. As our Lord reflected to His disciples, “They will know we are His disciples through our love for one another,” let us reflect that love into a dying world and reflect His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
