Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 10:31, LSB

It seems our world likes to make an issue out of most anything. This has been the case throughout history. In the early Church, it was about food sold in markets and the question of whether or not it was sacrificed to idols. Paul’s response is valid today. If it not be done to knowingly rebel against God and is not contrary to God’s Word, we should do so without any issue. However, if it becomes an issue that could cause another to stumble in their faith, then we should refrain. There are things biblically we should refrain from doing no matter what – sexual immorality, use of illicit substances, abuse of others, etc. – if our Lord calls us to refrain, we should refrain. There are also things of question that we may stop from doing if it is a stumbling block to others new to the faith. A great example may be drinking or smoking while on a mission trip in a place where those things are done by those who do not follow Jesus. It may not be against our conscience, but it would be against theirs. All things we are called to do to the glory of God and that includes how we live our lives. It is good for us to be thoughtful of this in our living so we may shine out God’s glory in the world and the world may know His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
