He said, “Blessed be the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his mercy and faithfulness toward my master. Indeed, the LORD has guided me to the house of my master’s relatives.”
Genesis 24:27, EHV
A prayer to the Lord can never hurt. God always desires for them as we are called to seek His blessing. Here we find a prayer of praise by the servant of Abraham sent to find a wife for his son, Isaac. He was praising God because his prayer was answered by Rebekah. This servant had prayed a very specific prayer and God answered in a very specific way. We don’t know the heart of the original prayer, but the response of the servant to it being answered shows his humility and thankfulness. The desire of Abraham wasn’t because his relatives were faithful, but because God would work through them and set Rebekah apart from them. We can see how God provides, and His hand is always at work. This is as true today as it was then. God is a providential God. Not as many in the prosperity movement would write, but in the way, He provides for the needs of His people to fulfill the calling He places on their hearts. There is no prayer too big, too small, or too specific if our hearts are seeking after God’s heart. God always answers our prayers in the way that suits Him and His plan and success is not based on our faithfulness, but His. When we place all things before God and trust in His mercy and care, He can do great things through us and before us. In this, we can find His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
