They continued to hold firmly to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of the bread, and to the prayers.
Acts 2:42, EHV
Tradition has its place in our faith, as is evidenced through the Bible. The teachings given to the people by the Apostles set the standard of what we are to believe and how we are to be as followers of Christ. There were aspects of what they would do that adhered to the traditions our faith grew out of during the Apostles' time with Jesus Christ. They also didn’t quit going to Temple quickly. Some traditions were discontinued out of necessity, and others were guided away from through further teachings of the Apostles because of the idolatrous nature of the former practices. The past still guides us as we move forward, and we are to be cautious about allowing modern circumstances to shape our beliefs, but are reminded to be guided by the Word. Part of that Word calls us to regularly gather to worship, pray, and hear the Word proclaimed in its purity as we rightly receive the Sacraments of our Lord. It is through the faithful practices that we are able to shine a light on our Lord and be led into our Lord’s peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
