“In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.”
John 14:2, LSB
Nothing in this world is permanent. In a moment, everything we have can be taken away, through war, weather, economic hardship, health, etc. The places being prepared for us in Heaven by our Lord are not temporary; the places He prepares for each of us are eternal and safe. As we walk in this mortal coil, our Lord reminds us of His blessing, so we do not become too caught up and cling too tightly to worldly things. He has done this often during His walk with the disciples. He reminds us that, as He says, those who have left house and home will have a greater blessing. He speaks of the blessings of Heaven and the riches awaiting us in our Lord when we enter eternity. Not like the things of this world, which waste away and have no value, but in Heaven, all that is important will never wear out and will stand with us for eternity. It will be a place where we will live in perfect harmony with God and creation as our Lord intended in Eden. It is in His peace our Lord calls us home.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
