How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word.

Psalm 119:9, LSB

There is one way to know whether we are following the right path in life and that is by knowing and keeping the Word of God. We often read that things are “written upon our hearts.” This reality is true for all of us whether we are a follower of Christ or not. We all have something written upon our hearts. There is only one, though, that can lead us to eternal life. Knowing God’s Word will write for us a path and show us where we can safely go. Going out on our own is like going out into the woods without a map, a compass, or trails. We can easily become lost, and everything begins to look the same. As the adage goes, “We cannot see the forest through the trees.” God doesn’t send us out into the world blindly, but He has continually provided guidance for His people. Unfortunately, our hearts are rebellious, and we like to blaze our own paths, but God is continually calling out to His chosen and seeking the lost. If we wander off the path, we can find quick correction in His Word and we are able to be led once again to His safe embrace. There are many who are lost in the thickets and wandering aimlessly in dark paths, but our Lord has given us His Word to carry out and be a beacon of light and hope to those seeking a way out. Through this, we may all know His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
