Matthew 6:22, EHV
“The eye is the lamp of the body. So then if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light.”
Whatever we put before our eyes and consume influences how we see and think. The more things that are contrary to God and draw us into worldly thinking, the less our focus will remain on God. It is always a hard balance as we walk our Christian Walk because we are constantly being influenced by what we see. Advertisements across all media bombard us with images that distract and lure. Shows we watch fill our heads and hearts with a variety of thoughts. Jesus knew this was true for His disciples then and would be now. It is a warning of caution for us all as we seek to be light for our Lord not to fill ourselves with darkness. Be wary of what we consume with our eyes so as not to draw us away from God. When our head is filled with lustful thoughts, we can no longer look at a brother or sister in Christ in the same way. Anger can blind us and cause us to push away those God has given us to either minister to or with. If we look too highly upon ourselves, our focus may move away from helping another. The gift of our eye and the power that our vision provides can help us see all the glory of our Lord, but what we consume with it may blind us and keep us from being of any use. Let our eyes and our ears be guarded to protect us from those negative influences that lead us away from God and His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
