But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ, and manifests through us the aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.

A scent is a powerful tool. When you walk into a movie theater, some companies spray special scents into the lobby that smell like warm, fresh, buttered popcorn. As you drive into the parking lot of a coffee roaster, you will smell the strong aroma of coffee. Walk into a chocolate shop and the air is thick with the aroma of chocolate. All these cause a physical reaction in you. They are, for most, an attractant. God does the same for those followers of Christ, in a sense. I have been amazed by some of the people that the Holy Spirit has drawn into the life of my wife and me. It can be awkward and sometimes the conversations are a little strange, but it is always clear that they know we are people of faith. The reality is that God makes His followers different. Like some of the attractants used in the world, it may cause some to be repelled almost like an allergy which can cause some interesting reactions also. This was true as we read throughout the Bible. When we are immersed in God, we carry with us His scent into every place we go, and His aroma flows off of us so that many seeking Him may come to know His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
