John 6:44

“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.”

John 6:44, LSB

It is through God’s choosing we can come to know the salvation of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is hard to think there will be those the Father will not choose. We either oversimplify this reality or ignore it altogether. Like the Ninevites who repent, there is the possibility of hardened hearts to turn to God and for those outside of His named that can be grafted into the promise. We see this throughout the Old Testament, and this is broadened for us in the New Testament as many come to Jesus who were outside of His chosen people, the children of Israel. As He moves upon our hearts, and we are faithful to His calling we are led into His glory. It is through His power and His calling that we find our salvation. If we can confess from our hearts and with our lips that Jesus Christ is Lord, then we can have confidence that His promises are true, and we will be those called into His glory. This is not our doing but His. We are called to be faithful to this calling and trust in His promises while proclaiming His truth in every place He brings us in life and to all who will hear the promise. When the last day comes, we, who believe, will be raised and stand before Him in glory as we see the judgment fall upon those who denied Him. In the end, all suffering will end, and we can fully know His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
