We know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now. Not only that, but we also, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan within ourselves while eagerly waiting for adoption, the redemption of our bodies.
Romans 8:22–23, MEV
We await the return of our Lord as we see the struggles and suffering that consumes our world ever on display. The Holy Spirit calls us out into the world with the compassion of our Lord. We watch those whom we love pass beyond our reach and look forward to walking with them again and celebrating the glory of our Lord, but our calling is to wait patiently, proclaiming our Lord’s glory to any who will hear. The death that awaits us all looms large, but we know that it has no power over those of us who believe and trust in our Lord and Savior. Christ the great I AM stands as our paraclete, ready to take us into glory as we have been adopted as children of God. We hear the groans of this world, and our innards groan deeply as we see the gnawing worm consuming all that is broken and fallen within our world, and the cries of those lost resonate deeply in our souls. To bury those that have passed from this life awaiting the next, we know the hopefulness and joy of those who died in Christ, but those who left this mortal coil in uncertainty, our hearts pray for our Lord’s mercy. Our calling in this struggle is to stand firm in our Lord’s peace while we proclaim His glory, hoping that our words are heard clearly and they too may come into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
