Matthew 8:10, LSB
Now when Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those who were following, “Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith with anyone in Israel.
This is Jesus’ response when confronted with the Centurion’s faith. He knew who Jesus was and what authority Jesus had. As one with authority, the Centurion trusted in the power of Jesus, and his faith did not require witnessing Jesus’ hands touching his daughter. God desires for us to have such a faith to trust in all things so that His will will be done. It’s not that we are to desire to bend God’s will to ours, but we are to ask God’s will to be done in our lives and for us to recognize it. We are called to recognize God’s authority in our lives and submit to Him in all things. This is hard. How many of us like to submit to any other authority but our own? As children, our nature is to challenge, and we are even taught through media that we should strive and break boundaries. Yet, in Christ, we are called to submission. He desires our lives to be under His authority and that all we do in our lives is to reflect His authority, which He shares with those who are under Him so others may come to know Him and we all may know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
