Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians. They received the word very eagerly and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these things were so.
Acts 17:11, EHV
As Christians, we are called to be like the Bereans. It can be easy to become caught up in a movement and be told things about Scripture that may or may not be true. More often than not, deception comes in the telling of a half-truth or by twisting a portion of Scripture to be used to lead people down false-paths. When the Bereans searched Scripture, what they read was the Old Testament and, most likely, focused on the Torah. The beauty of the New Testament is how, in study, one will find that it lines up with the Torah, the first five books of the Old Testament. The teachings, which is what the word Torah means, shaped the entirety of Scripture, and when read, we find that there truly is no contradiction throughout Scripture. As we search the Word, the Holy Spirit will open to us the truth that leads us into the reality of our faith and the peace that our Lord desires for us all to know.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
