Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.
1 Peter 5:8–9, ESV
We mustn’t be fearful, but God wants us to always be prepared. Satan has no power over us, but he can certainly make our lives difficult. He is always prowling and ready to pounce and desires to take away our hope. He is strong, but not stronger than our Lord, and when we are fallen upon by him, all we must do is call out to our Lord, and we will find that we are saved. Saved not by our own power, but by the power of God who hears us and comes to our rescue, always. As we stand firm in our faith, the cries of our faith will always come out, and the certainty of our Lord’s protection is always near at hand. In suffering, we are comforted through our Lord. He provides us with assurances that reveal to us His true intent and love for us as He guards us from all assaults of the evil one. He desires to show us His continued providence as He leads us into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
