“Let your heart therefore be wholly true to the LORD our God, walking in his statutes and keeping his commandments, as at this day.”
1 Kings 8:61, ESV
Solomon had fulfilled the vision of his father, David, and at the dedication of the Temple he gives these words of encouragement. Sadly, he did not abide by these words to the end, but God still had a plan. We are called to faithfulness in our walk, not just at the high points but through out our entire journey until we breathe our last. It can be hard to do so as obstacles come in life and it is easy to become distracted, but our Lord calls us to Himself. Unlike Solomon, we have the fulfillment of God’s promise to His people in our Lord Jesus Christ. We no longer have to make the regular sacrifices that were once required and no longer are our sins forgiven by the blood of animals, but we have been covered by the blood of our Lord and Savior, redeemed once for all time. We are called to stand fast in our faith and never lose sight of our Lord as we journey and proclaim His praises. Our lives are our banners and our voices are the calls to lead others into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
