Romans 12:6–8

However, since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to use them properly: if prophecy, in proportion to one’s faith; if service, in the act of serving; or the one who teaches, in the act of teaching; or the one who exhorts, in the work of exhortation; the one who gives, with generosity; the one who is in leadership, with diligence; the one who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Romans 12:6–8, NASB 2020

Each of us has various gifts given to us from God and when we function in these giftings, we bring great blessings to our Lord’s creation. We are called to be mindful and learn what our giftings are and seek to do most of our faith work within those areas to offer the greatest blessing. The reality is that none of us has every gift and, though we may have the skill, we will not work as effectively when we work outside of our giftings. Our gifts are God’s grace given to each of us for the benefit of the faith and our communities. It is our calling as followers of Christ to learn those gifts by being in the Word and being aware of the areas we feel most joyful when we are working within them and then making space available for us to work in those gifts by seeking others who have gifts we don’t have. This is how God has created us to work in community and how we are designed to be interdependent on one another and our Lord as He calls us to remain focused in His callings for us. As our Lord spoke the promise to Abraham, the promise is given to us, “We have been blessed to be a blessing.” Let our Lord’s blessings flow from us and may we know His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
