They will pay the penalty of eternal destruction from the Lord’s presence and from his glorious strength on that day when he comes to be glorified by his saints and to be marveled at by all those who have believed, because our testimony among you was believed.
2 Thessalonians 1:9–10, CSB
This is why we are called to be witnesses of the faith. We know that there will be those who will not believe, but our desire is to prevent God’s presence from being removed from anyone. Our desire is meant to be that all people will have the opportunity to hear the Gospel. We can’t force another to believe, and for those that wholly reject it, for them we pray because we know from God’s Word the suffering they will face. The things we suffer today will pale in comparison to what those who reject our Lord will face for eternity. This is the gift of the Gospel. We are the bearers of it to the world, and our hope is that all will come to the glory of our Lord. Our lives are to be reflections of the glory of God. Sadly, we don’t always reflect it well, but our Lord gives us a new opportunity every day as we walk in His forgiveness and grace. Our Lord’s mercy endures forever! This is the message of hope that we carry with us. Our Lord endured so much for our glory, and we are the bearers of His glory so that those who believe may know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
