2 Timothy 3:16–17, ESV
As we are in the Word of God, God speaks to us. The Holy Spirit opens for us the Word and reveals to us the will of the Father and the glorious gift of the Son. It is vital for the Christian to be in the Word regularly, but the Word is often neglected in our daily lives. The busy-ness of our day-to-day can easily get in the way. Paul was reminding Timothy of this reality also. The more we read the Word, the more we find that it applies to us. Even those long lists of names become more interesting as God may reveal things in them that give momentary glimpses into His heart. The power of the Word is that it changes our hearts and redirects our minds so we may better witness to others the blessings that are found within the Word and the love that our Heavenly Father has for us and why He sent us His Son so that we may be with Him in eternity. As we are built up in God’s Word, we may find a greater sense of His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
