So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord.
Ephesians 2:19–21, ESV
In Christ, we are transformed. This cannot be stated enough. We are united with our Lord and made part of the Holy Temple of our Lord as we come together as the body of our Lord Jesus Christ—a structure not of brick and mortar, but of flesh and bone. We are called together to be joined in the mission of bringing more into union with our Lord and in unity with one another: a stranger no more, but brother or sister for eternity. We are no longer set apart from one another, but united in the holiness of Christ. Being united with those who were called before us and those yet to be born for all eternity. Our citizenship is no longer centered here but with our Lord and the royal family of our Heavenly Father. It can be hard, as we often may feel alone in the world and separated, but in Christ, this is not the reality we are meant to know. Let us be united and sing His praises not only in eternity, but in the here and now, so we all may know and proclaim His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
