But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me.
1 Corinthians 15:10, LSB
Paul went from being a persecutor of the Church to becoming a faithful preacher of the Gospel and giving up everything for Christ by the grace of God. It is amazing how Christ can transform us and use us to do great things to shine out His glory. Paul didn’t by happenstance come to a moment where he believed persecuting the Church was wrong but by the power of God in a moment he was changed. This is how God can work and does work in many lives. There are some lucky enough to have been born into faithful Christian homes, but for many, it is by God’s grace that they are called to follow Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. It is He who calls and enlightens us. It is He who brings about change. It is through His grace, that we become new creations. This does not mean there is no work on our part. Once called by God, He calls us out of our passivity to the work of proclaiming and living out the Gospel in all aspects of our lives. He calls us to the labor of living out the true faith and becoming a beacon that draws others to know Christ and His love. His redemption is written on our renewed lives reconciles us in our relationships that have been damaged and brings us into His glory and His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
