By faith Rahab the harlot did not perish along with those who were disobedient, after welcoming the spies in peace.
Hebrews 11:31, LSB
By faith…these words are the key for us all. Faith is given to us by God, and our adherence to its guidance is all supernatural. Why did Rahab welcome the spies? Why did she protect them? Why did she believe? By faith. She had it placed in her heart by God to do so, and her reward was to be saved, but even greater, she was cleaved into the line of Jesus the Messiah. Forever, she will be remembered as we read of the lineage of our Lord and Savior. Her saving act helped bring salvation to the world. When our lord calls us to do anything, we are not to know the long-term impact, but we are to trust in the One who guides us. For Rahab, there was risk. For us, there is risk. In Christ, there is eternal hope and life. The guidance of the Lord will not always be easy to follow, but His salvation reward is secure. In our work, let’s not only think of the benefits to us or even the one who comes to faith, but the generations that can be joined in the line of our Lord and brought into His eternal peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
