Galatians 3:2–3

If you'd like to watch, click on Pastor Squatch Musings!

This is the only thing I want to learn from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?

Galatians 3:2–3, LSB

We are, by nature, lovers of the Law. We like to show our worthiness in what we’ve done and point out others' unworthiness by their lack. This is what the Pharisees did. In faith, we understand that nothing we do makes us worthy, and the Holy Spirit is the revealer of this truth. It cannot be said enough, the Law cannot save but only condemns. In Christ, we have the Gospel that gives us life, and we are constantly reminded of our need for Him. We cannot be made perfect by perfect living. We are unable to live perfectly. Only one man has walked on earth who was able to live a perfect and sinless life, Christ our Lord. He lived and died, so we may live and be with Him in eternity. This is the promise of our Lord. It is of no benefit for us to sit in judgment over others, but we are called to stand steadfast in the Gospel and proclaim this truth to everyone who does not know His love, as we seek to lead all who cross our paths into His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
