Later a son was born to Seth, and he named him Enosh. This is when people began to proclaim the name of the LORD.
Genesis 4:26, EHV
One would think that before Seth’s firstborn son, people would be calling on God and praising Him, but here we find this phrase, which shows the difficulty of the heart of fallen humanity. Cain and those born with Cain and of Cain knew God, but their hearts were far from God. From the time of Adam and Eve’s ejection from the Garden to the murder of Abel, hearts were more apt to listen to the deceiver and flee God. Seth was born into the faith and knowledge of God, and out of him would come the seed of God’s chosen. We could wonder about the state of the world around the time of the birth of Seth’s son, Enosh. Our Lord continues to call us to faith as He moves within our hearts and reminds us of the sacrifice He made for us in His Son, not to burden us with guilt but so we may proclaim His glory. We are given this calling as children chosen by God, so that we may walk in the certainty of His calling in our lives. Let us always proclaim God’s glory and be a light to His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
