So the LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle.
Exodus 33:11, NKJV
Joshua was captivated by the presence of God. Moses would leave, but Joshua would choose to stay longer. We know that he would leave eventually, but as we read more of Joshua’s story, we know his heart was with God. God desires to captivate our hearts and minds. He wants our lives centered in Him. Not so we stay in our congregations and only sit in the sanctuary and pray. He wants us to be in the world, but He wishes our hearts to always be in connection with Him. In Christ, we are blessed to have the Lord’s tabernacle placed in us. As we pray and are in the Word, we can be in the tabernacle with our Lord. When we unite in community, we are assured that Christ is there with us. The power of the Cross is that it made it easier for us to be in God’s presence because the separating veil was split and God entered humanity. It is a captivating prospect, yet how often do we miss out as we do not take advantage of the access to God we have and our hearts become stretched and drawn? God is calling us all to come to Him and be filled with His peace as we spend time and rest in His presence.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
