“Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
1 Corinthians 6:13, ESV
There is no greater personal sin against God than abusing your body. God is clear about it throughout the Old Testament. Sexual sin is the perversion of the gift that God has given us as He established the act and the union of marriage to allow for the highest level of intimacy and the greatest union of a man and a woman. The ultimate gift of this union is the blessing of children, and the greatest suffering recorded in Scripture is the barren womb of a woman as she yearns to be a mother. Children are not a requirement in the union of marriage, but a blessing afforded to a husband and wife. In this union, we are able to partake in the process of creating life. A blessing and a gift that we see is often forsaken and abused in a world that has forgotten God and His promises. As Christians, our calling is to be a witness to others of this glorious gift and proclaim His promises in living a life that is a beacon to others, so they too may come to know the glorious peace our Lord can bring as we seek to honor ourselves in giving glory to Him who created us.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
