For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, he began to seek the God of his father David; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the wooden images, the carved images, and the molded images.
2 Chronicles 34:3, NKJV
As Josiah’s heart turned more and more to God, his passions changed also. He saw the things that displeased God and, as a young man, made changes that would help to change the hearts of the people of Israel. Most people will not become kings who can evoke change through an edict, but we can bring about change in our hearts that can affect the hearts of others. As God changes our hearts our focus is also redirected. This redirection will affect how we talk and work with others. Now this does not mean we will always make the right decisions and that is why we need Jesus and His sacrifice, but He will guide us and give us wisdom that will help us to continually change as we let go of those things that are not pleasing to God. Through Christ, the altars in the high places of our hearts will be destroyed and the poles that guide and distract our eyes will be removed. The most amazing things happen when we may think that God’s favor has all been spent. This is how God operates and shows His mercy and grace. Let our hearts be continually redirected to follow the narrow path and may we know our Lord’s peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
