Galatians 4:22–23

If you'd like to watch on Rumble click here or on YouTube click here!

For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the servant-woman and one by the free woman. But the son by the servant-woman had been born according to the flesh, while the son by the free woman through the promise.

Galatians 4:22–23, LSB

In Christ, all who believe are set free from the bondage of sin. Yet once reborn in the Spirit of our Lord those still bound in sin desire to draw us back to bind us again under the Law that draws us into a fleshly life. When our desires control us and our passions overwhelm us we can feel the bonds of them wrap around us, but we are given the gift of our Lord and may be set free once again. It is our calling to live outside of this tension and always seek after our Lord. When worldly things distract us from the glory of our Lord, our witness is lessened and others seeking freedom may be lost in the darkness. We are not to avoid the world but continually be set apart in the awareness of to whom we belong. It is never meant to be a source of pride in which we may boast, but a reminder of the gift we have been given in Christ as we see others yearning to be set free. Through Christ’s death and resurrection, we have been claimed like those chosen by God as Abraham’s heir, not like the children of Hagar, but the children of Isaac, Israel. We are grafted into their promise and redeemed. Though they did not keep to the covenant, we have been given the renewed covenant and are called to be a light to walk with them into our Lord’s glory and know His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
