2 Corinthians 11:3

But I fear that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be corrupted from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.

2 Corinthians 11:3, LSB

The Christian faith is simple. If we read through the Old Testament, we can see the desire of God for people to know their salvation and hope is through Him alone, yet we find the people to whom He keeps calling and to whom He continually brings salvation turning away from Him. God’s visible presence was even shown among His chosen and any who saw them in the wanderings for forty years. We hear of His presence returning before the people as His presence filled the temple when it was dedicated by Solomon and the priests. Then in the greatest miracle of them all our God entered into flesh in Jesus Christ and walked among us. God calls us to faithfulness, but the simplicity of that and the salvation promise often causes people to do what God despises, the allowance of worship for other things. It may not be a full denial of Christ, but God does not accept the worship of Him plus other gods. He is a jealous God who desires our lives to be centered on and in Him. He desires for our lives to be lived to His glory. His want is for our praises to be to Him alone. We may think it requires more than that, but simply put, devotion to Christ is to live life with Him always in mind and seeking to be in honor of all He has done in every aspect of who we are. We need not add to it, but also we are called not to subtract from it. God desires for us to find our peace in Him and Him alone and reflect this peace into the world.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
