Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, laying aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:1–2, LSB
As Christians, we never walk alone. We are always surrounded by the witnesses who have gone before us and have prepared the path. We have the accounts of those who have suffered for Christ’s bride, the Church. In this witness, we are built up with messages of hope and promise. In this, we may find support when we struggle, hearing the stories of struggle and hardship, as well as the reshaping of lives through the promise of our Lord Jesus Christ. The joy of our faith resonates throughout time because the voices of followers of Christ continue as we are given an account of their witness. The song of faith continues to be sung, and the transformation of lives is being lived out perpetually. For our sakes, these voices carry us through, and our hearts may be driven forward as we pick up the song and sing it out into the world, telling all about Jesus’ love and leading many into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
