Matthew 11:28–30

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

 Matthew 11:28–30, NKJV

The Lord’s call, “Come to me,” and His promise given not to some, not to those who meet certain requirements, but to all. The “all” is difficult for so many because we live in a world so burdened with the “musts” and the “shoulds” that we can miss out on the promise. The labors and burdens of this world that press upon us and remind us of our failures, our shortcomings as we attempt to make things right on our own, are no longer of any concern for the believer. It’s just these words, “come to me…all.” Our Lord sets no pretense, no stipulations, only promises. This is His call to us to find our rest in Him. We don’t have to come with excuses or try to justify our errors, just a call and open arms. No words are necessary, no apologies need to be given, He already knows. He has already forgiven us. He doesn’t demand anything more than for us all to come and rest in Him. This is the calling our Lord gives so openly and freely, and He desires for us to hear it and enter into His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
