Psalm 51:5

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Psalm 51:5, ESV

No one is born without sin. Only one has ever been born without sin, and He was crucified. The conception and birth of Jesus did not fit the normal patterns, and we do not really know how this pattern lived out until we have the brief tableau when He was twelve. Yet, for us, thankfully, the calling is not to live like Jesus but to believe and trust in Him and follow Him. To follow Him means that we seek not to live as we may see fit, but to live our lives as best as we can in His footsteps. We cannot live a sinless life because sin is embedded in us, but in our humility, we can take measure our steps with Him as our guide, knowing He is always near when we cry out to keep us from falling headlong into the abyss as we walk the narrow path. The crags and the cliffs of life do not need to swallow us up. We can measure our footfalls and confidently look ahead as we serve our brothers and sisters to lead them on His path, also. It is this bold and steady journey that leads us all into His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
