Romans 8:16

The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God.

Romans 8:16, LSB

Have you ever entered a discussion with someone on a topic who had an opposing view, and faced an unreasonable demand for proof? One thing I love to do is discuss various issues, and I have often chosen to discuss them with people who do not share my viewpoint. Some people may think this is strange, but I find it fascinating to understand not only how others think, but to better formulate my understanding. However, there are times when during the discussion I found some will either demand sources for viewpoints or overwhelm me with an overabundance of information that may or may not be related to the topic at hand. We like to hold that our views are correct and when challenged, we don’t often want to take a moment to verify through personal research but desire another to prove that a view is valid and if the sources are not valid in their opinion, they will not give any merit to them. The reality is that if someone does not desire to believe in something they won’t and no matter what the merits of what is presented they won’t believe. We, who believe, hold fast to our faith because the Holy Spirit validates for us the merit of our sources. We believe the Holy Bible is true because it is validated through the power of the Holy Spirit. We can only know God because He is revealed to us through the Holy Spirit who has given witness to the Father and the Son. We can only hold fast to our confession and pray for those who disbelieve. In this, we can find peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
