What we received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we might know the blessings freely given to us by God.
1 Corinthians 2:12, EHV
To discern the things of God, God has given us His Holy Spirit so we may see His hand at work. If we only see as the world sees, we will miss the blessings God abundantly pours out on us regularly. God does not give as the world gives and we may see things as through a mirror dimly. In suffering, without the Holy Spirit’s vision, we may become blind to God’s hand at work and be overwhelmed with hopelessness. Yet, we as Christians are given such greater vision through our Lord Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit to lift us out of despair and into His joyous hope. He will not let us be deceived by the spirit of the world and protects us, so we do not become caught up in the spirit of the age. Through Him, we are given the gift of discernment that we may lift others out of darkness and lead them into light. As we walk with our Lord, our lives are given different meanings and greater purpose. We no longer are our own, but we belong to God and He is the guide in all aspects seeking to lead us in hope and to understand His power. As the Holy Spirit speaks in our lives and shows us our blessings our eyes are opened to better know God’s peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
