He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
Psalm 91:1, ESV
We like to think of our Christian faith as something we practice periodically in our day-to-day living, but this is not what God calls for in our lives. He doesn’t want a social media friendship, but a deep all-encompassing relationship. He wants us to stay with Him and take a pause regularly. It is a continuous relationship that extends beyond the moments we give Him with prayer or devotional reading and is greater than the time spent in worship on a Sunday morning. God wants real intimacy with us. He wants us to share our lives with Him. He wants us so near to Him that His shadow will cover and protect us from the deceit that the accuser wishes to put into our ears. As we stay with Him and seek Him in every avenue of our living, He will salt every part of who we are, and all of our interactions will be transformed into something bigger. We will be different and those seeking God will be attracted to this and our community will change around us. Like a magnet, those charged to seek will be drawn and those charged against God will be repelled. Sadly, this will drive some away and out of our lives, but as we grow in a deeper relationship with Him, we will grow deeper relationships with others who are close to Him too and we will be enveloped in His shadow and covered in His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
