Now the Law came in so that the transgression would increase, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 5:20–21, LSB
The Law does one thing and one thing alone, it reveals sin all the more. It is only a condemning force and makes it more and more impossible for us to enter into God’s presence. A Law lover may think of themselves as righteous, but, as we know, to make us righteous God entered creation in His Son so His grace would abound. Grace does not excuse our sin and we are not given permission to break the Law, but we are covered in our Lord’s grace and are forgiven. The forgiveness our Lord gives in His grace is all encompassing and is meant to lead us away from the sinful self into the new and living self in the image of our Lord. The more we turn into grace, the more we reveal Christ our Lord in our lives. It is the daily process of walking in His grace and remembering our need for our Lord’s forgiveness, we find that the old self is drown as the waters of Baptism flow over him pressing him down and our Lord Christ rises anew in us. Our Lord Jesus Christ reigns over us and shines through us as we submit ourselves more into Him and He causes us to rest in His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
