But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
1 Corinthians 9:27, ESV
As Christians, we are called to be self-controlled. This is how we live our lives, how we use our bodies, and how we speak and act. It is a calling that is easy for us to stumble as we are faced with a multitude of temptations. Yet, our Lord continues to call us to it as He desires for us to be witnesses to the ends of the earth. He wants us to glorify Him in every way and to use all that we have in this pursuit. The pitfalls in life are endless, and God will continue to pick us up when we fall. As we cry out to Him, we are not left with a deaf ear. Yet, we are not to be prideful in our pursuit and are called to act and live with care so we may not impede our witness and cause others to be turned away in our living. This is a continuous process our Lord works within us as He seeks to use us in all aspects of our lives and with everyone we encounter. Seek our Lord first in every interaction and be aware of His presence so His peace is given to all you meet.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
