Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
Colossians 3:23–24, ESV
All aspects of our lives as Christians are meant to be dedicated to the service of the Lord. This includes our work. We spend a large portion of our lives working, and Paul reminds us that our work is also a reflection of our Lord and the faith we hold. So, we are to work to His glory and do our work to the best of our ability with a joyful spirit. This is how we can reflect to others our faith and show others the hope that we hold. This differentiates us from others who see work as merely an ends for themselves as they see the work as a means to earn money for their lives. We all have bills to pay and mouths to feed, but the difference that occurs when we do it for the glory of God is in the spirit of how we complete the tasks set before us. Our attitudes are changed, and our efforts are for something greater. We are God’s, and our lives are His. God desires for us to shine out the transformation He is making in us and not to keep our light under wraps. As we do our work, be a beacon to others of God’s glory and lead others to our Lord’s peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
