“Have not I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9, MEV
Moses passed his mantle onto Joshua just before his death, and God brought these words to him. These words were given to encourage Joshua as he was to lead all of Israel into the promised land and lead them to victory. God is an encourager. He does this throughout the Bible, and it is good for us to take note that His encouragement for His people is also for us. We are called to take courage in our faith and trust in His promises no matter the adversity we may face. As we walk in faith, we are never alone. God walks with us in doing the work He calls us to do. Many pitfalls can happen that can cause one to become discouraged, but our God calls us to stand fast and walk confident in His promises. We are His chosen and we are His people. Those who are ensconced in the false faith of the world will stand against us, but we are to walk in certain hope of our Lord’s dominion over all things and, like those in Babylon facing the threat of death, know that whether we live or die in this life we will be in God’s eternal kingdom as we enter into eternity. Remember these words in the day-to-day and be strong and courageous knowing that He who gives the promise can keep the promise as we shine out His light and know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
