Let your lives be without love of money, and be content with the things you have. For He has said: “I will never leave you, nor forsake you.”
Hebrews 13:5, MEV
The Bible never says that money is evil or bad; it is the love of money that grabs people and becomes an idol. Money is a means, not an end. We are called to find contentment in Christ and Christ alone. There is nothing greater than the salvation of Christ and this gift is not something that can be taken away from us, He pursues His chosen. Once we belong to Him, we find that He will continue care for us and offer us protection. We often find ourselves in times of trouble because we forget this and think we must rely on ourselves or we can be caught by the bug of discontent through the traps set in the world. We see it when the lottery prizes become very large or the snares set by casinos to go for the large prize. Their goal is to feed the love bug and draw us into discontent and want. Our Lord calls us to be at peace and be satisfied as we look upon all the blessings He has given us in life. It is through this contentment, we can lead others away from the dissatisfaction of the world into our Lord’s embrace and let them know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
