For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
2 Timothy 1:6, LSB
Complacency is not an option for God. The gifts that God gives us are not meant to sit dormant. Yet, in life, it may be easy to become caught up in other things and lose sight of the calling God has placed on our lives. Paul was reminding Timothy of his calling. We can do the same for one another. When we see a brother or sister in the faith who was once on fire and doing great things to build up the kingdom, we may build him or her up in prayer and encourage our brother or sister to continue the work God has placed in his or her life. Paul did not want Timothy to be neglectful in his gift, and we are reminded of our desire of the same for one another. It is good to pray for one another and to speak the Word in love so we are each led to walk closer in our journey with our Father in Heaven, so all of us may know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
