He told them a parable to illustrate that it is necessary always to pray and not lose heart.
Luke 18:1, MEV
Jesus wanted His disciples to know the importance and power of prayer. We should not minimize persistent prayer or its effectiveness. As we pray, God can move even the hardest of hearts over time and can help events unfold that will shine out His will. We see in our world many things that are done against God and His will, yet we have seen things change as we have persistently prayed for the change to occur. A recent example is the overturning of Roe v. Wade in the United States. It was hard to imagine over the years how this would ever be undone as the laws in states were continually overturned by its precedence. In its fall, we have seen the difficulty of the work ahead, but we are still called to pray. We continue to pray for hearts and minds to be changed and, ultimately, to turn to Christ and know His hope and forgiveness. Changes evoked through prayer will bring outcomes previously thought impossible because God is the one listening and He is the one who moves mountains with a word. It is this gift He has given to us as His people as we continue to pray and persist in our prayer for His light to shine through that all would know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
