“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Matthew 6:33, LSB
One of the most difficult things to remove from our lives is worry. Worry is that unwelcome friend who, though we often don’t want her around, continues to stop by and cause us stress. Jesus introduces us to biblical wisdom in hopes that we will set worry aside and invite her into our lives. Wisdom tells us that God provides for all our needs, and when we place our faith in His providence, we will continue to feel His presence. Wisdom is the friend we desire in our lives, and we find her within God’s Word that seeks to permeate our lives. Sadly, worry lingers in our workspaces and homes, causing us to focus on potential troubles and hardships. She likes us to be discontented and to focus on lack as opposed to abundance. As we turn more to God and keep Him central to our lives, we will find wisdom all around. She reminds us that it is God who provides for our needs and leads us from unnecessary wants. As we seek the kingdom of God and center our lives in our service to Him, it is amazing how our perspective will be changed and many of the things that burden our hearts will be lifted away. God is our provider and desires to be the King of our lives, showing us His benevolence and care for us always. Let us seek Him first and know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
